Young Female Sets Lime Rock Track Record in Barber National Race
LAKEVILLE, Conn. (June 10, 2010) – Young racer Ashley Freiberg is set to return to the winner’s circle this weekend at Lime Rock Park.
The 18-year-old driver from Homer Glen, Ill., currently leads the Skip Barber Summer Series point standings after three regional wins in four races thus far in the 16-event campaign. Freiberg already set Barber racing history this winter by becoming the first woman to capture a series championship, taking the Southern Region title.
Now, the personable Akzo Nobel-sponsored competitor goes for her fourth and fifth Summer Series wins this Friday and Saturday (June 11-12) on the fast 1.54-mile road circuit in northwest Connecticut. Freiberg recently set a new track record at Lime Rock in the BFGoodrich/Barber National Series event last month. Freiberg, who finished second in a Barber National race at Virginia this year, was in position to make more history by winning her first National series race at Lime Rock on May 31.
